Abruzzi Chamois
Observation in nature
For observe the chamois, the best season is the summer.
In fact in this period -with the dissolution of the snow- the tracks are more accessibles, also if they are ever binding.
This is the season on which we'll find on the grassland over 2000 m the herds of females and the littles of chamois. Instead it's more difficult to see the males because in this period of the year they make a solitary life.
At first of the winter and untill the drop of the first snow, we can watch the fight between the adults-males who compete for the females. This is the period in which the males return to the herd.
Who haven't never seen the Abruzzi chamois, I advice to go in Rose's Valley in the National Park of Abruzzo (I remember that in July and August it's obbligatory the presence of a guide of the Park, so to address to one touristic-centre of the National Park), where the density of the population is so really high that it's very easy to meet chamois along the tracks, also very near..
In fact it's the only part of its "areale" (territory where a vegetable or animal species can be found) where we can say there is an overpeople of Abruzzi chamois and where the animal is accustomed to the steady presence of the man.
Personally, I prefer to watch the chamois of Majella and Gran Sasso where it's necessary to make a real "naturalistic-hunt", surely more exciting.
Who is interested to go in the National Park of Abruzzo, or in the National Park of Majella or in the National Park of Gran Sasso to watch the Abruzzi chamois, and to have necessity of a naturalistic-guide, can write me to: info@camosciodabruzzo.it.
