After years of research and study and an involving direct in the conservation and safeguard of the Abruzzi chamois, I have thought to dedicate it a web site. My intent is to make to know and to admire the Abruzzi chamois as much as possible, and to make to understand the why of its importance and great conservationistic-value.
In fact it's the only italian species inserted in 1996 in the red-list of mammiferous in danger extinction by IUCN (International Union of Conservation of Nature). Moreovor it's the only italian species listed in the Appendix 1 of the International Convention of Washington (about animals and vegetables species in danger extinction -CITES-) and the Council of Europe has considered its protection a priority interest for the European Union: for this reason, it is been included in the Habitat directive in 1992.
As you can see, the conservationistic value of the Abruzzi chamois is been recognized in all the warld!
It is special for its endemism: it lives only on the Abruzzo's mountains. Its number can not to tranquillize us about the survival of the species. In the past numerous efforts are been achieved, but others efforts are needed to guarantee the survival in the future.
